Lauren London sat down with Radhi Devlukia on A really good cry podcast and talked about how she's been dealing with grief since her boyfriend Nipsey Hussle was murdered in 2019.
“I still feel like crap, that's the thing,” she said of how she was dealing with his death. “I guess I should ask my friends how far I've come because I still really don't feel like I've gotten anywhere.” Adding, “I feel like I'm very heavy, but again, I have to put it up to the grace of God, because if it was up to me, I'd be sliding here on my stomach, but I also don't want to take away from the work I've done since then until now. So, I don't want to do that, because I'm good at doing that.”
She credited her children and her community for helping her “get through” the pain. “God just put people in my life who can lead me and teach me and guide me. I always say the prayer of strangers kept me.”
London also talked about how she is teaching her two sons to cope with the loss of Nipsey. “It's so different with both of them, because one is 14, the other is 7, so you know. I'm always, like, a container for whatever emotion they're having,” she explained. “I'm like, 'It's okay to feel all these things, you know? I hold it for you, I feel you, I understand you, I hear you.” Adding, “But also playing his music. I always tell them to journal too, like, write him a letter, tell him how you feel.”
Earlier in the interview, London told Devlukia that their love was “purposeful, pure and safe” and talked about what he learned from him. “Everything he was telling me made more sense after he left,” she said. “I'm so caved in and I'm domestic, he'd say, 'People really need to hear you. You have much truth to share.' He saw me as my children see me.”
He added, “But when he was here, only trust in God. He really relied on God, he really believed in himself, he really didn't believe in “Someone else holds the keys to your destiny as much as you and your creator.” And authenticity is something you can't buy, it's something you can't fake, it's something you can't put on.”
On the fifth anniversary of his death, London shared a tribute on Instagram. “If you know me, you know March is always a rough 31 days for me holding my breath,” she wrote. “This day decided to fall on Easter Sunday this 2024 Interest…. considering your name #GodWillRise Energy never dies…. i love you Eternal.”
