Sean Combsaka Diddy, was arrested earlier this week and formally charged in New York with sex trafficking, extortion and other charges. Diddy is currently serving his pretrial detention at a notorious Brooklyn detention center known for its poor facilities, violence and understaffing among other issues.
Deedy, who was denied bail and will remain housed until his sentencing, is being held at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center. As shown in The Daily Beastconditions at the Metropolitan Detention Center, popularly known as the MDC, have been fodder for debate especially since the closure of the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan. As the report noted, MCC is where Jeffrey Epstein died under mysterious circumstances.
Combs' legal team, Marc Agnifilo and Teny R. Geragos, noted the poor condition of the MDC in a bail motion filing Tuesday (Sept. 17), reportedly housing their client in a place that is “not suitable for temporary reservation' should be excluded.
throughout it Daily Beastseveral cases are reported regarding the degradation of the MDC, and criticisms leveled at the facility by judges and other officials date back several years. In January 2019, the MDC lost power, leaving the inmates inside to suffer the cold conditions without relief. As a result, a class action lawsuit was filed against MDC and settled for $10 million.
MDC has previously hosted other high-profile figures such as R. Kelly, Martin Shkreli and Sam Bankman-Fried among others.
Agnifilo said Tuesday after the hearing where the charges were read that his team plans to appeal the $50 million bail decision.
