Rancid singer and guitarist Lars Frederiksen is selling dozens of guitars with the launch of his official Reverb store on September 25.
Frederiksen and Reverb made the announcement on Wednesday (September 18) and previewed the store’s initial stock, which includes a host of axes used by Frederiksen in the studio and onstage with Rancid and his solo projects over the years.
“Over the years I’ve acquired a lot of different types of guitars, some basses, and a lot of other cool stuff,” Frederiksen told Reverb. “Everything I’ve used in some capacity, either on stage or in the studio, but it’s just been sitting there, collecting dust. So I’ve partnered with Reverb to get some of this gear into the hands of people who are going to play it.”
One of the crown jewels, and perhaps the most recognizable guitar in the collection, is Frederiksen's “Viking”-decaled 1965 Gibson SG Special, self-described as his “main guitar for years at Rancid.” It was also immortalized on the cover of the magazine Viking LP of his solo album Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards.
Another authentic artifact comes in the form of the smashed Gibson guitar featured on the cover of Rancid’s “Roots Radicals” 7-inch: Frederiksen’s “first real guitar.”
“It's in very good condition, as you can see,” Frederiksen joked about the guitar, which has a cut neck and exposed body. “It's very easy to play. Obviously, the sustain is a bit bad, but other than that, it sounds great!”
Some other highlights of the store include:
- A black Fender Telecaster as heard on Rancid's 1998 album. Life will not wait
- A 1993 Epiphone Les Paul that Frederiksen used to record Let's Go and …And Out Comes the Wolves
- Epiphone G-400 blue “Millwall FC” by Frederiksen
- Several Flying Vs, including a white 1984 Gibson Explorer used on late Rancid albums and with the Old Firm Casuals.
