Sting officially brought his new trio to the United States, kicking off the North American leg of his “Sting 3.0” tour on Tuesday at The Fillmore in Detroit.
Joined by guitarist and longtime collaborator Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas, the former Police frontman delivered a set split nearly evenly between Sting tracks and Police favorites. The trio opened with “Message in a Bottle” and then performed classics like “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and “Roxanne,” as well as his recently released solo single “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart).”
The accomplished bassist and songwriter will continue the “Sting 3.0” tour with a multi-night run, kicking off with his second show in Detroit tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 18). He’ll then head to Toronto for three nights, followed by shows in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago and more before wrapping up in Los Angeles. He also came to the rescue for both Bourbon & Beyond and Ohana, stepping in as a last-minute headliner after Neil Young pulled out of each festival.
