In his most mature work to date, Louis The Child proves that growing up doesn't mean losing the ability to see magic in the mundane.
Now available through Interscope, his new album The sun rises The album delves into the source of human experience through tracks that vibrate with the electric current of childlike wonder. It invites us to shed our cynical shells and is a sonic playground where sadness becomes a springboard that launches us through a song cycle of aching lyricism and dance production.
The sun rises She doesn't shy away from the shadows, but instead urges us to find joy in the unexpected and to wear our emotions like battle scars. Each song is a luminous reminder to follow your instinct and let your heart be your compass in a world too often ruled by cold logic.
Longtime fans of Louis The Child will find solace in the familiar dance-pop of “tip toe.” The lyrics, “My love was made for you, don’t you tiptoe ‘round it,” challenge listeners to dive headfirst into the intoxicating depths of love, abandoning caution in pursuit of connection. The same goes for “Wonderful,” an ode to his hometown of Chicago, where bubbling house beats morph into ecstatic trap beats that sizzle with frenetic bass.
Another standout track is “Let You Go,” which sees the duo reunite with Drew Love, with whom they released fan-favorite “Free” in 2019. This time around, they’ve crafted a bittersweet anthem for those caught between holding on and letting go. Louis The Child’s deep dubstep production reflects the turbulent emotions of a fading relationship, while Love’s lyrics embrace reluctant release.
To that end, it's no surprise that Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett, played by Louis The Child, called The sun rises His “most personal project to date.” Like a sugar-coated pill, the album swallows the bitter realities of life and leaves a sweet aftertaste of hope.
“That's what makes it worth the time and energy to do the best you can to make the world better for yourself and, in the process, for others,” Hauldren said in a press release. “When you make music intentionally, you choose what to say. Are you going to talk about how much you hate a person or are you going to talk about how much you've grown from how they treated you and try to find new understanding through that?”
