Jerry Cantrell has unveiled the title track from his upcoming solo album, I want blood. The song features Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses on bass and Mike Bordin of Faith No More on drums.
“I Want Blood” follows singles “Vilified” and “Afterglow” and serves as the final teaser for the album ahead of its October 18 release.
The song is one of three tracks on the album on which McKagan plays bass and one of two songs on which Bordin plays drums. Other musicians who contributed to I want blood They include Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Greg Puciato (Better Lovers, ex-Dillinger Escape Plan), Gil Sharone (Team Sleep, Stolen Babies) and Lola Colette.
Of the three singles released so far, “I Want Blood” sounds the least like Alice in Chains. In fact, it has an air more similar to the Queens of the Stone Age. However, Cantrell's distinctive voice and guitar playing are still instantly recognizable.
“There's confidence in this album,” Cantrell said of I want blood. “I think it's some of my best writing and performance and certainly one of my best singing. There are big parts of this record where I felt like my face was pressed against the ceiling of my abilities, operating at the top of my ability.”
Cantrell will perform a record release show on October 17 at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown, California (pick up tickets here), followed by three concerts in South America in November. A press release mentions that a North American tour will be announced soon.
