One of the biggest nights in the fashion industry will showcase Black men's style. Coleman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams have been selected as celebrity co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala.
As spotted on the New York Times, The theme for the 2025 Met Gala has been officially announced. “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” is directly inspired by Monica L. Miller's, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Originally published in 2009, the book details the history and cultural significance of the Black Dandy. She describes Black dandyism yes Fashion as a “strategy and tool to rethink identity, to rethink ourselves in a different context. To really cross a line – especially during enslavement, to really cross a line into who and what counts as human, even.”
To ensure the theme is properly brought to life, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has appointed Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Fashion Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour as co-chair for the 2025 edition. LeBron James will also serve as honorary chair. The exhibition is set to feature artwork, antique clothing and other items that will explore the history of the Black Dandy.
The 2025 Met Gala will take place on May 5, followed by the opening ceremony Superfine: Tailoring Black Style report on May 10.
