Amy and The Sniffers have released “Jerkin” as the latest preview single from their new album. cartoon darknessahead of its release this Friday (October 25). Accompanying the track is a NSFW music video that accompanies the song's sassy lyrics.
The Australian pub-rockers stream the X-rated video only on their website, with a censored version posted to YouTube. Singer Amy Taylor says of the song: “It's good to express your anger when someone's been pissing you off and it's good to have humor in life, especially as a woman, when you're supposed to passively say 'everything's fine' to move on.” . everyone else comfortable.”
And he adds: “The best part of this song is that a squirter can be anyone's genitals. I wanted to write a song to praise “the self” and put down the “other” because sometimes, even if it's just for a small window, that's the best way to laugh at something and empower yourself. The world is pissing me off and breaking my heart more than ever right now, I might as well pay it forward. It doesn't make sense but it's cathartic.”
The uncensored music video is full of frontal nudity. The clip's director, John Angus Stewart, says: “The level of offense that a vagina or a penis can generate is absolutely bizarre. Amy once told me, “If the world wasn't so fucked up, I'd never wear clothes.” It is the context we give to our sexual organs that makes them innately “offensive.” That's why we wanted to strip away the artifice and examine the body in an open and conversational way. We approach the project as if it were a performance in itself. From concept to crew to casting, we (the production) let the project evolve as naturally as possible, allowing our subjects to dictate their level of participation based on their comfort that day.”
He continues: “We were learning what it was as we were doing it, which is basically the opposite approach to what I'm used to. But since this idea was driven by people's personalities, it didn't seem right to do it any other way. We kept moving things further and further away until we were left with just a white wall and the human body. I want to come out of everything I do with a different perspective. Just as one's perspective changes with an Amyl song, I want to change in the same way. “I think we all came away from filming with an innate need to be less prudish and give less of a shit.”
“Jerkin” follows the previous one cartoon darkness singles “Big Dream,” “Chewing Gum,” and “U Should Not Be Doing That,” the latter of which was named our Heavy Song of the Week upon its release.
Amyl and The Sniffers recently opened for Foo Fighters on a summer tour of North America. They begin a tour of the United Kingdom and Europe at the beginning of November, with tickets available here.
