Better Lovers has released the new song and video “Love as an Act of Rebellion”, the final sample of the band's new album Highly irresponsible ahead of its release on Friday (October 25).
The song is the album's closing track and, in the words of frontman Greg Puciato, “runs the entire emotional gamut.” The first part of the track sees the band in frenetic metalcore mode, delivering a flurry of fast-paced thrash and breakdowns, perhaps the most manic two-minute stretch of any Better Lovers song we've heard so far. But then things calm down and they end up in a “place of uncomfortable acceptance,” as Puciato said.

“This song has become one of my three or four personal best songs on the album,” he said. “I knew it was the last song on the tracklist as soon as I heard the instrumental. …Extremely satisfying emotionally and stylistically to write vocals for this one.”
Guitarist Jordan Buckley preferred to use a food analogy: “Here's one more snack before the Highly irresponsible The main course is served this Friday. Some crispy green beans before Buddha's Fest. A green onion before your slow-roasted prime rib. Unlimited soup and salad before your Tour of Italy.”
Puciato added: “Continuing with Jordan's food analogies, to me this is a complete dish in one song. “If I had to show people one song off the album and one song only, I think this would be the one.”
The video directed by Anthony Altamura is also above, taking the Highly irresponsible album title literally. Here, the band performs between a sideshow of highly irresponsible monsters including a woman who self-immolates, a circus strongman who gorges himself on cheese balls, and a guy who puts dynamite to his head.
Better Lovers is comprised of Puciato (ex-Dillinger Escape Plan), along with three former members of Every Time I Die (Buckley, Clayton “Goose” Holyoak, Stephen Micciche) and Will Putney of Fit for an Autopsy.
The band will support the new album with a fall North American tour beginning November 3 in Asheville, North Carolina. The walk lasts until mid-December and you can get tickets. here.
