Matthew Sweet suffered a “debilitating stroke” while on tour in Toronto earlier this month.

The 60-year-old musician “must be flown back to the United States on an ambulance transport plane with medical personnel on board, to a specialized rehabilitation center, where he will receive care and therapy 24 hours a day for six weeks. He will then need months of treatment and rehabilitation that we hope will lead to a full recovery,” according to Catherine Lyons of Russell Carter Artist Management, who created the GoFundMe.
Sweet is best known for the '90s power pop hits “Girlfriend,” “I've Been Waiting” and “Sick of Myself.” His most recent album, cat pawwas released in 2021.
