Kylie Minogue embarks on one of her biggest world tours, supporting her new album, 'Tension II'. She talks about her creative process for 'Tension II', her collaborations with Bebe Rexha and Tove Lo, the impact of “Padam Padam” and Kamala Harris' use of the song, and more!
Kylie Minogue:
Hello!
Joe Lynch:
Kylie, thank you so much for being here. How are you today?
Billboard, thanks for having me!
So, we're going to start with “Padam Padam” because obviously “Padam,” the demon, you know, took over the country, took TikTok by storm. The hook, the delivery is a little different than what you'd expect from a pop song. Did that give you freedom to approach these 'Tension II' songs differently?
Yes, he opened a lot of doors for me and was “the one” for me at this time. You know, it was the wave I was able to catch. I'm still riding it, you know? Not just in that song, but in everything around it. I say I'm in my villain era, Killing Eve. Unless you've heard 'Tension II-'
Have.
I guess I took it easy when recording it, but now that I look at it as a body of work, I think “what are other people going to listen to?” And I think that would be the kind of thread that runs through it. In a way that isn't creepy.
Good! I definitely heard some “Padam” vibes in the collaboration you have with Bebe and Tove Lo. That was very fun. You say your name, astrological sign.
What is your zodiac sign?
I'm an Aquarius, so yeah, hello.
We are made to be friends.
Keep watching for more!
