Finally! Mariah Carey was on time Friday morning (November 1), ushering in the holiday season with her annual Christmas opening video. The Queen of Christmas has officially declared that the countdown to the most wonderful time of the year has begun with her highly anticipated 'It's Time' video.
This year, her Instagram post included a video of Carey, 55, dressed as Morticia Addams from Addams Family. The clip opens on a dark and eerie night, with a full moon, howling wolves and a steady rain falling on a haunted mansion. Cut to Carey in a sparkly black dress, a black wig and dark makeup grabbing the hand of a dancer dressed as Gomez Addams as they do the couple's terrifying tango.
But after a few spins and dives, Mariah shoves Gomez out of frame, throws a dagger into his face — narrowly missing her grinning beau — and then takes a knowing look right down the lens and uses the her mind to open a curiosity cabinet as the last pages of the diary from October fly away.
You know what was inside: Mariah's red and white jumpsuit, of course. “THE TIME HAS COME!!!!” Mariah wails her signature line from the seat of a gift-laden sleigh as the stage fills with fake snow, Gomez transforms into a snowman and, of course, the MC's iconic holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” blasts out . .
The video ends with Carey smiling broadly as she and her reindeer prepare to take off in her sleigh. Carey had been teasing the start of the Christmas season for weeks, including dropping a “Christmas Time Set List” on Apple Music, unveiling the covers for four new physical singles “All I Want For Christmas” and, as always, posting a “not still” video to make sure no one jumps the gun on her favorite vacation.
Now that the skeletons have to pack up for another year, it's time to open up “All I Want,” because Carey is celebrating her 30th anniversary Merry Christmas album on the Merry Christmas Time tour, which is set to kick off November 6th in Highland, CA. Last year, “All I Want” topped the Billboard Hot 100 once again, marking the holiday classic's fifth consecutive year at the top since it first did so in 2017.
