Singer Mariah the Scientist has diligently sat in the gallery at many of Young Thug’s court dates for Georgia’s RICO charges against him. Now that Thug, born Jeffery Williams, has been released after a plea deal, she’s celebrating his return.
“Thank you God, thank you God. This is more than what we prayed for,” Mariah the Scientist said in a statement via text message to Atlanta’s WSB-TV reporter Michael Seiden. “We are so grateful, this is the greatest opportunity we’ve ever been presented with and we are so grateful. Thank you Judge Paige Whitaker for giving us the opportunity to move forward with our life! Thank you God. Thank you Brian Steel and Keith Adams and every attorney working on this case, tireless. THANK YOU! I cannot say it enough, I cannot repay you for this. You have changed our lives, Jeffery’s life and mine. Thank you to everyone who has been there for us, every fan, who believed in us and prayed for us.”
On the evening of Thug’s release, Mariah the Scientist performed in Brooklyn on Latto’s Sugar Honey Iced Tea tour. On stage, she acknowledged the win through tears with a prayer. “This has really been a long time coming and it has been really hard,” she said. “There was people who was telling me I would never see him again. There was people who was laughing at me and laughing at the situation, making fun of us. This shit is so fucking crazy, man,” she said before seemingly catching herself cursing.
“This is supposed to be a prayer,” she said, before pivoting her message to the public. “All you motherfuckers who doubted me and doubted this shit and said this nigga was never coming back, fuck all y’all. What you gon’ say now, bitch?” Customarily, Mariah sends a “Free Thug” message at her shows, but last night, she said she’d have to switch it up. “Let’s just make it to the end so I can get on this jet!” she added.
In a recent interview on WNBA star Angel Reese’s podcast, alongside Latto, the singer spoke to the beauty and difficulty of her relationship with Thug, which began in 2021. “He’s been locked up now for longer than we were in a relationship before he got locked up,” she said. “I get to see him in court, so I be going to court. Sometimes I fall asleep in there. I just go to breathe his air.”
Mariah the Scientist has spent much of the last two years on the road with artists like Rod Wave, Future and Coldplay. She released her debut EP on SoundCloud in 2018 and has since put out three studio albums: Master, Ry Ry World, and To Be Eaten Alive. She and Young Thug have two songs together, 2022’s “Walked In” and 2023’s “Ride.” Last year, Thug responded to her song, “From a Woman,” with his own – “From a Man.”
