Quincy Jones: his life in photos

Musical powerhouse Quincy Jones died Sunday (Nov. 3) at age 91.

“Tonight, with a full but broken heart, we must share the news of the passing of our father and brother Quincy Jones,” his family said in a statement. “And while this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

“He is truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed; It comforts us and makes us immensely proud to know that the love and joy, which were the essence of his being, were shared with the world through everything he created. “Through his music and his boundless love, Quincy Jones’ heart will beat for eternity.”

Survivors in his family include his seven children, including actress Rashida Jones.

In his illustrious career spanning more than 70 years, Jones won 28 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He has worked with icons from Ray Charles and Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson, for whom he produced best-selling albums. off the wall, Suspense and Bad. After taking over A&R at Mercury Records in 1961, Jones became the first African-American to serve as vice president of a major label. He was also the first black composer to receive recognition for his film work.
