Kylie Minogue may be riding high on the current pop scene with the latest dance hits from her latest album Volume IIbut the pop icon recently admitted she misses the simpler days of the 1990s.
In a candid interview with The Timesthe 56-year-old 'Lights Camera Action' singer shared her love for a time before social media, when dance music and nights out were the mainstay of her life.
“I miss almost everything about the 1990s,” Minogue said, adding: “There were no phones, dance music was crazy and I was in it and amongst it, going to clubs, going to fashion shows, hitting the sidewalk, I was going to the markets.”
For Minogue, the absence of social media represented a form of “freedom” that allowed her to immerse herself in the moment without today's digital distractions. “I wasn't wasting time scrolling through socials or dealing with, like, adult life. So I miss a lot. All in all just freedom.”
She also offered some sage advice to her younger self, saying: “I would say, 'Have fun. There is a lot to come, there will be many obstacles and if you can't overcome them, you will find a way under them or around them. You'll find a way.”
Minogue may be well into her fourth decade in the music industry, but with her latest release, Volume IIproves that her pop reign isn't over.
The album, released through Mushroom Music, peaked at No.1 on the Australian Albums Chart and also claimed No.1 on the UK Official Albums Chart, marking her tenth UK No.1 and ninth ARIA chart topper .
She is also soon to embark on her 2025 world tour, which includes a landmark performance at New York's Madison Square Garden – a first for Minogue. Talking to you Bulletin board about the Intensity Minogue revealed that fans can expect songs from both Intensity album and “a taste of every decade”.
This includes her Hi-NRG cover of “The Loco-Motion,” the international smash that launched her career and reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988.
“It was the song that launched my career,” Kylie said Bulletin board in October. “Over time, there was a period where I was like, 'I don't know how to do this. It's so flawless. How do I do it?' But now everything has come full circle. I can really do this song with all my heart and enthusiasm.”
