This is the 8th EP from Englewood, New Jersey emcee Sule. Signing to Benny the Butcher's own Black Soprano Family Records in late 2022, after releasing 7 EPs over a decade, he's also notable for his guest verse on Biggest from Camby Latest track “White Lives Matter” produced by ex-Mobb Deep Havoc and of course the black soprano's debut with great success Written at Wide's Corner earlier this spring. Fast forward to Election Day 2024, a sequel awaits.
“New Jersey State of Mind” is a boom bap opener, letting us know what it was like for him growing up in the honorary state, while “Trois Sopranois” featuring Benny the Butcher & Fuego Base finds the trio representing B at its best $F for a few minutes. The STREETRUNNER-produced “Victor Cruz” offers a fun trap glow referencing the WR for the Chicago Bulls, but then “Cutz” featuring Flames Dot Malik brings the 2 together for an aggressive, curse-busting hard-hitting hip-hop joint of generations.
To kick off the other half, “My Brother's Keeper” soulfully says he's known for promises instead of threats, while “Sule Common Wealth” featuring Lo Pro works on more kicks and snares so they can be listed as the themselves who ran it. Fuego Base's “I Made You Wealthy” keeps a booming blast addressing the people who betrayed them after making them rich, and “The Crash Out Story” ends by teaching everyone to leave their valuables in the hidden house.
Sule has quickly risen to become one of the best artists on the Black Soprano Family roster over the past 8 months and unlike Written at Wide's Corner achieving its goal of making Englewood a landmark, the sequel elevates it further. The production is a mix of boom bap & trap just like its predecessor, some of the guests stick the landing and the New Jersey artist himself continues to tell us what it's like where he's from.
