Jason Sudeikis is now an honorary member of Public Enemy — and the same could be said for Flavor Flav about the Backstreet Boys.
At this year's Thundergong! benefit concert in Kansas City Saturday (November 9) — an event hosted by Ted Lasso star to benefit Steps of Faith — the rapper fired up the crowd with a smooth rendition of “I Want It That Way” as well as teamed up with Sudeikis for an on-site performance of the hip-hop group “Bring the Noise.” In a video from the night posted by Flav Monday (November 11), he and a group of friends take to the stage to sing the 1999 smash.
The hip-hop star sings the band's iconic lyrics: “Tell me Why/ Ain't Nothin' but a heartache/ Tell me Why/ Ain't nothing but a mistake.”
In other clips from the show, Flav and Sudeikis wear matching one-pieces on stage while jumping up and down to the blistering beat of the 1991 Public Enemy track. With the rapper getting the crowd going, Sudeikis impressively nailed each verse, spitting: “Never worse than bad because the brother is madder than mad/ In the fact that he is corrupt as a senator/ Soul on a roll, but you treat it like soap on a rope/ 'Cause the beats and the lines are so dope.
“TURN IT UP,,, because WE MADE THE NOISE,!!! WOWOO” Flav wrotesharing a video of the duo on Instagram. “Jason Sudeikis fell like this and was absolutely incredible!”
The next day, Flav and the comedian attended the Kansas City Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium — as did hip-hop star boyfriend Taylor Swift.
This year's Thundergong! featured a number of other notable performances, including Weird Al Yankovic and Will Forte singing Chappell Roan's “Hot to Go” for the crowd — choreography and all. Elsewhere in the evening, Sudeikis and his children — son Otis and daughter Daisy, who he shares with former partner actress Olivia Wilde — joined him on stage to help sing the backing vocals of Billie Eilish's “Happier Than Ever,” most of which We are the Millers star played as passionate solo.
Every year, Thundergong! raises money for Steps of Faith's mission to provide amputees in need of prosthetic care. Sudeikis — who organizes and hosts the annual event with charity founder Billy Brimblecom Jr. — he said Bulletin board in 2021 who recruits many of his real-life friends to serve as guest performers each year: “Working on [Saturday Night Live] for 10 years, we've had everybody come through… What we're looking for is somebody that we're really excited about as fans, but also has that vibe of our friends… It's something you try to be subtle about because you want people to come in with the right space of the heart.”
