ROSÉ made history! Bruno Mars' collaboration 'APT'. making her the first female K-pop artist to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. But who is ROSÉ? What is her story? And how did it make chart history? This is Billboard Explains: ROSÉ's Record-Breaking Ride on the Charts.
Born in Auckland, New Zealand to immigrant parents from South Korea, ROSÉ moved to Melbourne, Australia at the age of 8 with her family. He began singing and playing instruments such as guitar and piano and played in church choirs. In 2012, ROSÉ's father found out that YG Entertainment was holding auditions for a new girl group in Sydney and convinced her to try out. She placed first in her auditions and became a trainee at YG Entertainment. After four years of training in Seoul, South Korea, she was selected as a member of BLACKPINK, along with her bandmates Jennie, LISA, and Jisoo. BLACKPINK released their debut EP Square One in 2016, and he did Bulletin board Chart debut with “Boombayah” and “Whistle” on the World Digital Song Sales chart. BLACKPINK has seen continued chart success, with EPs such as Square two and Square upand scored their first entry on the Hot 100 with “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”, reaching No. 55. Over time BLACKPINK released hit after hit, such as “Kill This Love,” their collaboration with Selena Gomez “Ice Cream” and “How Do You Like It.” In October 2020, their debut album — simply titled The album — debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, becoming the highest-charting album by a Korean woman at the time.
