If you've been looking for a winter desert escape, look no further than the warmth of Mojave Grey's debut album, Monument.
Comprised of Zander Bleck and Michael Pozzi, the rising musical duo brands their sound as “desert dance music,” blending their deep-rooted rock & roll influences with pulsing electronic beats to deliver an 11-track masterstroke. The album begins with an introduction of sorts, the eponymous track “Mojave Grey,” where Bleck welcomes us with smooth, effortless vocals while Pozzi shows off his instrumental prowess.
Building on that ethereal vibe are tracks like “House Of The Sun” and “Heartbeat,” which wordlessly describe the meaning of desert dance music: spiritual and traditional, served on a silver platter with contemporary rhythms.
Sometimes light and atmospheric, Monument often takes deft, deliberate turns toward the dark and brooding. Tracks like “Faith” and “Lone Star” immerse us in dark digital soundscapes as we hold onto the light of Bleck's hopeful lyricism.
The ebb and flow between the album's light and dark ambiance is drawn from the “craggy landscapes of Joshua Tree,” according to a statement shared with EDM.com.
“Monument “It is our desert dance debut for the world,” the duo stated. “This album is our conscious offering and our declaration that we are here to stay. The album is intended to be enjoyed as a complete listening journey, alone or with friends. On a long highway trip or at a party. Get lost and transported to a place where your own personal monument can be.”
