For years, people have been complaining about their recommendations on Instagram, and finally, the photo/video sharing platform is now allowing users to take action.
As distinguished The VergeInstagram is testing a new feature that will allow users to “refresh” the content they are recommended.
Meta says the reset suggestions feature will be rolling out “globally soon” and will allow users to completely delete algorithm suggestions in their Streams, Explore, and Reels.
Per The Verge:
The new feature will be available to users of all ages, including Teen accounts. “We want to make sure everyone on Instagram — especially teens — has safe, positive, age-appropriate experiences and feels like their time on Instagram is valuable,” Meta said. “We want to give teens new ways to shape their Instagram experience so it can continue to reflect their passions and interests as they grow.”
Meta states that the whole process can be done in “just a few taps” and your suggestions reset will “begin to re-personalize over time” based on the content you regularly interact with on the platform.
So if you're spending time on Instagram looking at “bads and bads,” the algorithm will keep coming up with that kind of content. Now, if you want some useful things to appear on your timelines, start pinning and sharing them so you can clean up your timeline.
But wait, there's more. During the restore process, you can also check who you follow and decide to hit the unfollow button to further change your recommendations.
We need other social media platforms like X, even though it is slowly dying, to introduce a similar feature.
