In anticipation of the reissue, which will arrive as a limited edition vinyl LP early next year, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have released the original 2004 recording of “Heavy Metal.” stream it below.
“At the time, 'Heavy Metal' was due to appear alongside a small collection of songs that would be used for an EP to be sold on labels,” Clap Your Hands Say Yeah founder Alec Ounsworth explained in a statement. “We never thought an album was possible at that time. Later, during the mixing of the EP, the decision was made to add other songs. This final collection of songs became the first album.”
Ounsworth went on to say that he didn't think the original version of the song fit with the other songs on the album at the time, but “20 years later I think I've come to appreciate this one a little more. The rest of the album also has this emotion, of course, but the first songs speak even more of a certain innocence at that time that I strive not to forget.”
