Is it deserted in mid-August? Because Lil Nas X it is thirsty in his latest single.
On Friday (November 22), the “Old Town Road” singer shared his latest single “Need Dat Boy,” an uptempo new single that sees him chasing down a potential lover and explaining, in no uncertain terms, all the things she would like to do to him. Over a skittish drum beat, Lil Nas effortlessly switches between rapping and singing as he gives the headliner plenty of reasons to stick around.
“Need Dat Boy” is Lil Nas' second release in two weeks, following his latest house-inspired new song “Light Again,” which dropped last Friday (November 15). Both tracks appear on Lil Nas' upcoming sophomore studio album dreamboy, which Nash started teasing in earnest last week.
In an album trailer shared on his social media accounts last week, Lil Nas introduced fans to the album's eponymous character as the 'Dreamboy' helmet descended from the clouds and promised the singer to remind him “who you are . ” In one next trailer released last week, the character shows Lil Nas video clips from his past. “You are everything. And now that you remember, you're good to go,” says Dreamboy. “The next world awaits you.”
The news also comes as Shaboozey comes within a week of breaking Lil Nas X's long-standing record for the longest-running No. 1 single. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 with “Old Town Road”. If the country singer's “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” lasts another week atop the chart, it will tie Lil Nas and Billy Ray Cyrus' record of 19 weeks at the top.
But Lil Nas made sure to make it clear that there are no hard feelings if Shaboozey breaks his record. When the country star surpassed the rapper's record for the longest-running No. 1 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart, Nas congratulations saying “it was a good run! the horses are officially on the back now!”
