Tame Impala's Kevin Parker has invented a new instrument called The Orchid.
The Orchid, first conceived as a tool for Parker's own songwriting over a decade ago, is an advanced chord generator developed by Parker and his “friends”, similar to the “chord mode” you'll find on the bottom left of many keyboards. . Specifically, The Orchid is powered by three separate synthesizers: a polyphonic virtual analog subtractive synthesizer for classical tones, an FM synthesizer for modulations, and a “vintage reed piano emulation” complete with “mechanical noise samples for added realism.” With these, users can select from various “Performance Modes” including “Strum”, “Slop”, “Arpeggiator”, “Pattern” and “Harp”, and bring to life complex, colorful, textured and seamless chord progressions. no type of prior.
