Lizzo is the latest star to weigh in on the always heated discussion of the greatest MCs of all time. In a post on Bluesky on Friday (November 22) the “About Damn Time” singer offered her three top rappersin no particular order he said, the top two on the list both happen to be recently at odds.
Lizzo's trifecta includes Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, and Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott, an extraordinary roster of world-class mic technicians, in every way. The post came just hours after K-Dot shocked the world with the surprise release of his sixth studio album on Friday. GNX. The 12-song R&B lyrical barrage includes an opening track, “wacced out murals,” which considers Wayne's public dismay at being aired to perform during halftime at the 2025 Super Bowl in his hometown of New Orleans. .
“Usually for a hit Carter IIII kept my Rollie chain proud/ Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down,” Kendrick raps in the song referring to Weezy posting a video about how hurt he was that he wasn't pressured to pay for the Caesars concert. Superdome in February.
“He won the Super Bowl and Nas is the only one congratulating me/ All these n—-s upset, I'm glad they're showing their faces,” Lamar continued. Wayne appeared to take the outcry in stride, replying on Saturday morning, “Man, I do?! I'm just relaxed and not in my head yet,” he wrote. “Let us not mistake kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. please everyone No one really wants destruction, not even me, but I will destroy if they bother me. On me. Love.”
Lizzo's list is also interesting because it seems to continue the story of the explosive Drake/Kendrick feud, which started in 2023 with Drizzy/J. Cole's song “First Person Shooter”, in which Cole claimed that the “big three” of modern hip-hop are himself, Drake and Lamar. That song spawned a flurry of back-and-forth diss tracks between Drake and Lamar earlier this year that culminated in what many consider the final nail: K-Dot's “Not Like Us.”
Comments on Lizzo's Bluesky top three list included many fans slamming Elliott's inclusion, with one person writing, “Missy is Goated. Like a golden goat statue. Like renaming her childhood street goated' while another said, 'Almost got into a fight with someone at a party on New Year's Eve when they said Missy Elliott didn't make an impact on music.'
Two of Lizzo's three picks made it into the mix for Billboard's Top Pop Stars of the 21st Century, with Elliott earning an honorable mention and Lil Wayne taking 21st place. For the record, Drake got the No. 4 while the top two pop icons have yet to be revealed.
