Gojira made worldwide headlines this past summer when they turned an old French Revolution song into a mind-blowing heavy metal anthem at the Olympics opening ceremony in Paris. Now, frontman Joe Duplantier is urging people to “join the vegan revolution” as part of a new campaign with PETA.
Duplantier, who has been vegan for 10 years, stars in a new PSA video for PETA in which he discusses his own experience living on a plant-based diet, including the moral and health benefits that go with it.
“I became vegan for the animals,” says the metal singer-guitarist in the video. “But another benefit to being vegan is for your health. I have more energy now when I perform since I became vegan.”
He adds, “When my second child was born, we decided to go vegan as a family. It’s going fabulous. They love not hurting animals.”
At the end of the clip, he concludes, “The vegan revolution is simply people opening their eyes to what we’re doing, what we’re paying for. If you want to disconnect yourself from the activity that harms animals, you have to go vegan.”
The PSA video is set to the music of Gojira’s “The Trails,” which itself is a song about respecting animals.
In an interview with Billboard about the PETA campaign, Duplantier said, “The holidays are the perfect time for people to try out new traditions with their friends and family that leave cruelty behind. It makes sense to celebrate kindness and peace on Earth with a delicious vegan feast that didn’t cost anyone their life.”
He continued, “When I chose to go plant-based, I thought I would miss all the foods I grew up on, but surprisingly, the transition was painless. A vegan diet brings joy, energy and an unexplainable sense of relief knowing nobody’s getting slaughtered for my food.”
Gojira will play the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas in April, followed by a series of European festivals in the summer, and a tour of their native France in late 2025. Tickets to their upcoming shows are available here.
