Showtime's Upcoming Prequel Series Dexter: the original sinAt the very least, it promises a return to Miami and a murder, without passing up the opportunity to remind viewers of the glory days of the original show. In this new trailer, we see a solid preview of Patrick Gibson facing off against the younger version of serial killer Dexter Morgan, along with Christian Slater explaining the purpose of the “code” that defines Dexter's actions as a vigilante: “The code is to make sure you that you are different from the people you kill.”
Dexter: the original sin is the second spin-off series launched to capitalize on the popularity of Rightwhich was a ratings hit for Showtime during its original run from 2006 to 2013, and also received 24 Emmy nominations, including four nominations for Outstanding Drama Series.
The show's eighth season ended with a series finale that was considered disappointing, leading to the eventual green light for Dexter: new blooda revival series that brought back Michael C. Hall as Dexter for what was supposed to be one last hurrah… Until the summer 2024 announcement that Hall would return for other series, Dexter: resurrection.
The trailer of Original sin emphasizes that New blood not only focuses on a young Dexter, but also features younger versions of characters from the flagship series, including Slater as Harry, Dexter's adoptive father, Molly Brown as Dexter's sister Debra, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, James Martinez as Angel Batista and Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka.
Also appearing is Sarah Michelle Gellar as Tanya Martin, a forensics expert who becomes young Dexter's boss. And like other prequel series like young sheldon and NCIS: OriginsMichael C. Hall not only narrates the trailer, but will also provide voiceover for the series.
Dexter: the original sin first premieres on December 13, 2024 on Paramount+ with Showtime, before premiering on the Showtime cable channel on December 15. Watch the trailer below.
