Bravo's announcement on Tuesday (November 26) that Vanderpump Rules Re-Releasing With a New Cast of SURvers may not have been 'Good as Gold' news to longtime viewers, but Scheana Shay – one of the breakout stars of the OG lineup – has focused on a passion project: her upcoming EP with The 27s. And believe it or not, pop superstar Taylor Swift had a hand in the inspiration.
“What I wanted to do with this EP was that every song is kind of — and this is my Taylor Swift inspo — a different era of Scheana,” says the singer and TV personality, who attended the Eras tour. Bulletin board. “So you've got the Scandalous era of the Apples, you've got the 'Boy Crazy' era, 'Sweet & Sour' is like mean girl, the early Vanderpump Rules era, and the next single I have is called 'Miss Understood'. So this is just a combination of 11 years of reality TV feeling like I've been misunderstood! But it's a very good song. This one is a bit more poppy and then we've got a couple more that are definitely rockier.”
And like Swift, Shay — who has her own NFL ties by hosting some of Smirnoff's We Do Game Day Matchups, with the next one on Dec. 5 Detroit — will also do at least one other re-take (Scheana's Version, if you will) of her own tunes. “We're making a stripped-down version of 'Apple.' It's just going to be a more acoustic vibe, slower,” the Sheananigans The podcast hosts the bop stocks that originally arrived in August 2023. The tune was inspired by co-star Tom Sandoval's relationship with their friend Rachel Leviss (nicknamed “Scandoval” for the betrayal of Sandoval's love interest actress Ariana Madix almost 10 years and one of Leviss's closest friends), performed by Shay during VPR season 11 finale. “That's all we really do again. We've already done the Screamo version of 'Good as Gold,' but I'm really excited.”
Although Shay wasn't sure about the future of the hit Bravo reality show when we spoke with her Bulletin boardhe said at the time that he wasn't in a rush to get the EP out, hoping that would do the trick VPR the opportunity to document her artistic journey, which the show has done in previous seasons. “I'd at least like, if it's not me in the recording booth, when we do the release, it's captured in some way,” she says of her ideal scenario. “And if it's not open Vanderpump Rulesit would be on my YouTube channel, and I'll vlog whatever isn't on the show.”
The TV personality adds that she and The 27s have already mastered “a few songs” and that the new single will be released before the EP arrives. “It's such a good song that I don't want to release it without a visual aspect, so just figuring out if we're going to do a full music video for it…but it's coming soon, at least that single.” is shared. “And then I'd love to have the EP out before the end of the year.”
But if a new single and an EP aren't enough to satisfy fans' appetites, Shay teased that there might be something else on the way for VPR devotees: a collaboration with co-stars Lala Kent and Ally Lewber. “Lala and I actually talked about doing a song with Ally!” reveals the podcaster, who shares daughter Summer Moon with husband Brock Davies. “It might sound more like a children's song, but I recently recorded a song with Station Little and they make a bunch of inspirational pop music for kids. … We were thinking about it, and we're like, “Wouldn't it be fun if the three of us did something together?” Maybe around the holidays, which I know are fast approaching, so we'll have to figure it out soon, but we've been talking about the three of us working with Station Little and doing something for the kids! I'm in my mom's time!'
Although pop music and parenting are at the wheel of influence, she hopes to step outside the box with her music as well. “I would love to work with a legend like Dr. Dre, Eminem, where I'm ready and they do what they do. They are so talented!” oozed hip-hop icons. “Snoop Dogg, maybe Drake, but definitely more on the hip-hop side if I was going to do a collaboration. I feel like people would expect me to say, like Britney Spears or something pop or Gwen Stefani. No! Put me in the studio with Dr. Dre and I would be a very happy girl!”
