A$AP Rocky is finally ready to release his highly anticipated fourth album, Don't be stupidand on Wednesday (August 21), he released the video for his latest single, “Highjack.”
Directed by his creative agency AWGE and Thibaut Grevet, the video looks like a mix of Tim Burton Vincent and David Lynch Eraser as Rocky — dressed as Henry Spencer — addresses topics such as his influence on fashion (his record label American Sabotage featured prominently throughout) and the rappers who want his partner, Rihanna. “Before we drop the 'Peso' on you — like, you're not like Raf,” he spits in reference to his early affinity for Raf Simons clothing. Then there's the line, “These n—as want my wife bad.”
As for Drake, the Harlem rapper downplayed their recent back-and-forth Bulletin boardhis latest cover, which features A$AP. “You have to realize, sure n—what it was like throwing shots for years. I’m not in the middle of that s–t,” he said. “I don't reciprocate like that right now. Got bigger fish to fry than some boys. It's real beef out there. It's real. N—as I grow weary and weary every day. N—as sniping n—as every day. This little kitten is nothing.”
In September, Hot 97 DJ Kast One mentioned on air after attending an audition event that Rocky has more lines directed at his ex-boyfriend. “I heard A$AP Rocky definitely address a lot of the main issues that are going on out there right now. Let's just say the list goes on.”
Host Ebro Darden then asks, “So you're saying Rocky is still on Drake's list is what I hear you saying?” to which Kast One replied, “Oh, it will cemented in the list after that.”
Don't be stupid was originally slated for an August 30th release date, but the album has been delayed and will be released on DSP sometime in the fall.
