AC/DC’s iconic hard-rock anthem “Back in Black” has surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube, marking the second time the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame act has achieved the milestone.
The legendary band previously hit 1 billion views with “Thunderstruck,” which has since added roughly 400 million more views for a total of 1.39 billion.
Only a select group of hard rock songs have reached the 1 billion mark, with Linkin Park’s “Numb” leading the way at 2.17 billion and Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain” just behind at 2.13 billion. Overall, Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” featuring Daddy Yankee leads all music videos with a whopping 8.37 billion views.
“Back in Black” is the title track to one of the biggest-selling rock albums of all time. The 1980 LP has sold an estimated 50 million copies worldwide.
In 2020, Consequence celebrated the 40th anniversary of Back in Black with a number of exclusive features, including an interview with an AC/DC superfan who unlocked Angus Young’s guitar tone.
AC/DC returned to the stage after a seven-year absence to play the Power Trip festival in Indio, California, back in October. Rumors are swirling that the band will play more shows in 2024, although no dates have officially been announced. A recent report suggests bassist Cliff Williams will sit out the dates.
