Ace Frehley would love to tour Europe to promote his next album. 10,000 volts, but he has a big obstacle to overcome. The founding guitarist of KISS is currently unable to renew his passport due to a huge tax debt.
A Finnish music site asked the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Chaos Magazine about what's stopping him from touring in Europe (and presumably elsewhere overseas), and he gave a very honest answer.
“Well, there's a good chance I can make it to Europe by the end of the summer if I renew my passport,” Frehley responded. “I have had problems renewing my passport because I have some problems with the IRS. [Internal Revenue Service], and it's actually not the passport office but the IRS. Since I owe the IRS a couple hundred grand, and they just instituted a new law that says if you owe more than $50,000, they won't renew your passport.”
He continued: “Fortunately, I have some very smart lawyers working on this and there are ways around it, so I hope to be able to get my passport within two or three weeks. If that happens, I'll be in Europe this summer. If it doesn't happen, I'll be in Europe next summer. But I would love for it to be this summer because it has been too long since I participated in all the festivals there.”
Frehley's tax problems do not prevent him from touring the United States. The rock legend has booked a 2024 show series starting with a concert on January 25 in Frankfort, Kentucky. Tickets for those shows are available here.

In another part of the interview with Chaos Magazine, Frehley continued to criticize KISS, who recently performed their last show. “I get to play rings with Paul Stanley on guitar,” Frehley said. “I can even sing better than him and I don't have to use backing tracks.”
Ace Frehley 10,000 volts arrives on February 23 and was recently included in Strong consequencesList of the 30 most anticipated metal and hard rock albums of 2024.
