The tour will see the all-star ensemble, led by King Crimson members Belew and Levin, reinterpret three of the band's '80s albums: Discipline, Defeatand Three of a perfect couple. Vai also hinted that some other cuts chosen from the band's discography could be part of the setlist.
“The King Crimson from 1981 to 1984 created their own music,” Belew reflected in a press release. “Eternal. Beautiful. Complex. Fierce. For the fans who experienced this then and for those who never got to witness it, our goal is to bring it to life again. A monumental task but let's go for it! There aren't enough exclamation points to express my enthusiasm!
Vai commented: “Being part of this ensemble is an extraordinary privilege and opportunity to perform some of the most beloved, timeless and monumental music of the '80s (and beyond) with truly inspired musicians. This music resonates deeply with me. “I can assure KC fans that we will do our best to respect this great music with the care and intensity it deserves.”
Carey added: “I'm so excited to share the stage with three of my favorite musicians on the planet. “Tony, Steve and Adrian have always been a source of inspiration to me since the beginning of my career, and now being able to share a bit of my musical journey with them is a dream come true.”
BEAT has also earned the approval of King Crimson founder Robert Fripp. He not only endorsed the project, but even suggested the nomenclature.
Published Fripp in Facebook: “This is the project that Adrian Belew called me about last fall, a project that I fully support and encourage, and that I recently discussed with Steve Vai at McCabes in Santa Monica. I even suggested the name.”
