Lenker talks about recording much of the album in the morning in his bedroom, as well as how that setting ultimately manifested itself in the songs (he even left room noises in the final mix). Beyond the comfortable recording environment, she also talks about how taking a composition class affected her approach, explaining what she learned about herself and her abilities throughout the process.

One of the most surprising sources of inspiration for Brilliant Future It was the 1998 movie. Deep Impact, which she admits has influenced her since she was seven years old. “For years I was very afraid that a comet would hit. I remember it shook my reality,” she recalls. “I was like, 'Oh. So anytime, like any second? And I remember being so scared… I thought about the end of this whole world, I thought about dying unprepared. Because you see all the people hugging and facing their death when the comet comes, and I hadn't thought about those ideas. And then suddenly you can't stop seeing things.”
