Fans who attended Aerosmith's concert at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, last September had no idea it would be the legendary rock band's final show. But with the recent announcement that the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers are retiring from touring due to Steven Tyler's vocal injury, the September 9 show has become a monumental one.
Thanks to a YouTuber named Toshi Aizawa, the full show has just been uploaded to YouTube in 4K with “better sound,” as the description cites a remastered version of the audio.
Looking quickly at the video, Tyler's voice sounds pretty solid throughout. There's no clear evidence of the fractured larynx he apparently suffered at this show, which was only the third concert on the band's farewell tour. The injury was cited as the reason Aerosmith initially postponed the remainder of the tour dates, as well as the cause of their retirement from touring altogether.
The footage shows the singer in good spirits throughout the concert, singing classics like “Livin' on the Edge,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On,” and “Walk This Way.” The concert ends with Tyler mentioning that it was Joe Perry’s birthday the next day and the crowd singing “Happy Birthday” to the guitarist.
Aerosmith had been scheduled to restart their farewell tour in September of this year, but last Friday (August 2) they shocked fans when they released a statement announcing their withdrawal from the tour.
The band's statement read in part: “We have seen [Tyler] “He is going through a difficult time despite having the best medical team at his side. Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision as a band of brothers: to retire from touring.”
