Start streaming: Two postseason New York baseball anthems
The New York Mets' high-octane streak through the first two rounds of the MLB playoffs came to an end on Sunday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers eliminated them in six games to advance to the World Series. It was still a highly forgettable postseason for the Mets, who had previously won a thrilling three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers and a less suspenseful four-and-four with division rivals the Philadelphia Phillies — as well as a new charm in the form of McDonald's mascot Grimace and a new theme song to “OMG”.
The Latin pop banger – with a twist”Oh! My! God!” chorus hook – became a Mets fan favorite (and a Bulletin board chart-topper) after being released in June by Candelita, artist ID of Mets shortstop José Iglesias. The defensive lineman's hitting became an anthem for the team, as the team also brought an “OMG” sign to the clubhouse, which he posed for photos with every time someone on the roster hit a home run. The song went viral nationally during the Mets' postseason run, increasing 523% in official US on-demand streams from 146,000 in the viewing week ending October 3 to nearly 910,000 for the week ending October 17 , according to Luminate . (A new remix of the song featuring Pitbull and Silvestre Dangond, released on October 11, no doubt also helped those rising totals.)
Those streams will likely stop in the coming weeks after the Mets' postseason elimination, but their Big Apple rivals in the Bronx will likely see their longest-running anthem keep winning in the meantime. Frank Sinatra's “Theme From 'New York, New York,'” which has served as the Yankees' game-winning song for more than 40 years now, is up 24 percent in streams to more than 864,000 over the same two-week period. He also saw biggest hit last Sunday (Oct. 20), garnering 180,000 streams after the Yankees' victory over the Cleveland Guardians that eliminated Game Five of the ALCS the night before — a 59% gain over the previous Sunday — as the Yanks faced the Dodgers in the World Series , and more and more listeners want to be a part of it – ANDREW UNDERBERGER
The Silly 'Gilmore Girls' Trend Brings Up The Song For Years And Years Of Decades
Although Years & Years has essentially turned into a solo project for Olly Alexander, the British electropop outfit is still racking up hits. Streams for “Breathe” — a cover of Blu Cantrell and Sean Paul's 2003 hit that appears on the band's 2015 super deluxe edition Society LP – are up over 100% in the last three weeks. During the October 11-17 period, the track earned nearly 1.4 million official on-demand streams in the US, marking a massive 1,603% increase from the 81,000 streams it earned during the September 27-October period. 3.
A September 17th TikTok post posting a Gilmore Girls clip to the track Years & Years is responsible for the stream boost. In the opening clip, Kirk Gleason tells his love's father, “I love your daughter.” The father then replies: “Who are you to love my daughter? What do you have to offer her?' “Nothing,” Kirk replies. “Just this.” He then breaks out into an impromptu dance number to the soundtrack of “Breathe.” TikTok users were quick to put theirs up own spin on stagewith some choosing to impersonate Kirk and show off fool dance is moving theirs. THE audio from the original TikTok postcourtesy of the user @clozvrcurrently plays in over 145,000 clips, while another informal sound boasts over 39,000 publications. There are also over 210,000 posts currently linked to the official “Breathe” audio.
