Nine of the 10 lawsuits were settled before an upcoming trial. The family of Ezra Blount, the nine-year-old who died at the festival, still plans to go to trial.
All but one Wrongful-death lawsuits linked to the deadly Astroworld festival crowd rush have been settled, attorneys confirmed at a hearing in Houston on Wednesday.
As the Associated Press mentionted, Live Nation attorney Neal Manne said in court Wednesday that nine of the 10 lawsuits, including one from Madison Dubiski's family that was originally scheduled to go to trial this week, have now been settled. Before Manne's comment, it was known that at least four of the wrongful death cases had already been settled.
Dubiski's trial would be the first of hundreds of lawsuits filed after 10 people were killed and hundreds more injured during a stampede as Scott took the stage at Astroworld in November 2021. Dubiski's family included list Scott, Live Nation and Apple — which streamed the concert live — as defendants. Both Apple and Scott's recent requests to be dismissed from the case were denied in recent weeks, and Apple appealed the decision, delaying the trial to an unspecified date.
A year after her death, Dubiski's family launched a foundation focused on improving concert safety. A representative for Dubiski's family declined to comment, and a representative for Live Nation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“Mr. Scott is grateful that a resolution has been reached without the need for a trial,” said Ted Anastassiou, Scott's spokesman. “The confidential settlement will honor Madison Dubiski's legacy and promote concert security improvements.”
The settlements come nearly a year after a grand jury declined to indict Scott and several festival organizers criminally over the disaster. The Houston Police Department subsequently released a 1,266-page investigation providing more details about the incident.
The last remaining wrongful death case is for the family of Ezra Blount, the nine-year-old who was the youngest person to die at the festival. Per the appJudge Kristen Hawkins said the Blount family's case will likely be scheduled as the next trial.
