Andrew McMahon is (technically) pulling double duty on “Death Grip,” a new collaborative single from his solo act Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness and his newly-reunited band, Something Corporate.
With lush instrumentation and a good helping of reverb, “Death Grip” finds McMahon slowing down and seeking a state of balance in his life. “Doing therapy on Zoom/ On the patio in the afternoon/ Flashback to the year I lost my mind,” McMahon narrates at the start of the song, later alluding to mental struggles, writers block, and general uncertainty. But when the group reaches the chorus, McMahon finds the peace he’s looking for, singing “You can’t control it, life is the ocean/ Waves are waves.” Stream “Death Grip” below.
