Angie Martinez took to social media to shut down rumors of his death DJ Clark Kent, which were hastily published by outlets including The Source.
On Wednesday (October 16), the Hip-Hop website The Source reported that legendary DJ Clark Kent has died suddenly due to an unknown illness. Other outlets began to follow suit and report the claim, which would be quickly debunked by legendary radio personality Angie Martinez.
“The article published by The Source Mag & others about the death of DJ Clark Kent is false. Clark is home with his family. Please refrain from sharing any other false information. It's hurtful, deeply irresponsible and untrue,” she wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Martinez's post was quickly responded to by The Sourcewho quoted her post in theirs, writing: “The Source was contacted by a family member who brought us this information as reported in other media. We are happy to learn of DJ Clark Kent's well-being and apologize to the family for reporting the false information.” To this, Martinez responded, “I assure you, it was not a reliable source. Let's all do better. ” Angie Martinez currently serves as an executive producer on a documentary about the life of DJ, titled God's Favorite DJ: The Story of DJ Clark Kentand would confirm that he was with the family at the time the false claim was published. Mage, producer and son of DJ Clark Kent, also spoke to TMZ Hip-Hop and stated that the news was false.
The Source he would later issue a retraction, writing: “As we intended to inform, we also apologize for any inconvenience to his family and loved ones and for any inaccurate information relayed by sources we reasonably relied upon. We certainly hope and pray that brother Clark Kent is well.”
The infamous post drew heavy attention from many notable Hip-Hop figures, including DJ Scratch and Pete Rock on social media. D-Fine he would also express his frustration in an eloquent post on Instagram, writing: “It is necessary to think twice before posting as our words can hurt more than we realize. Let's promote civility and responsibility online.”
