Animal Collective are ringing in the 20th anniversary of their seminal LP Sung Tongs with a special reissue on colored vinyl. In addition, they are also circulating Sung Tongs Live at The Theater at Ace Hotel, a live recording of Panda Bear and Avey Tare playing the album in full in 2018, digitally and physically for the first time. Both are slated for release on October 4 via Domino. Animal Collective shared a live performance of “Children on vacation”, which you can listen to below.
Sung Tongs Live at The Theater at Ace Hotel features Animal Collective's entire set from their 2018 show. They played Sung Tongs fully and in sequence, with the exception of an early pivot into “Covered in Frogs” right before playing “Winters Love”, as the band has done in the past at some old shows. Animal Collective have never recorded a studio version of “Covered in Frogs”, but they have played it live enough times over the years, dating back to 2004.
Before their set at the Ace Hotel, Animal Collective played Sung Tongs in full at New York's Knockdown Center as part of Pitchfork's 21st anniversary. Their latest album, Isn't it now?was released in 2023. In the same year, the band released a remastered version of their 2000 album Spirit They are gone, spirit they are gone.
