Another Michael is in the middle of a prolific streak. After releasing his notable 2023 album, Wishes to fulfillreturn just over six months later with a companion album, Pick me up, turn me upside down.
Led by singer/songwriter Michael Doherty and producer/bassist Nick Sebastiano, the Philadelphia band makes every song sound like a breakthrough. There is a supreme openness to his guitar work and, at the same time, Doherty's melodies, often sung in rich harmony with Alenni Davis, are carefully crafted and always satisfying. Doherty's passionate and inimitable tenor draws you in and the band dazzles around him.

But Another Michael has grown in scope and presentation since his magnificent 2021 debut. New music and great pop. Wishes to fulfill It featured a bigger sound but was almost more direct; in Pick me up, turn me upside down, their sound has deepened, with even more compelling melodies and an equally intricate experimental indie rock palette. Soon, Pick me up, turn me upside down It is not a side step for Another Michael, but a leap towards the new.
“Dream Center” Pick me upThe final single, warm and harmony-laden, is a great example of Another Michael's past and future merging in real time. The chorus is anthemic and urgent, but the song as a whole features a broader focus on dreamlike majesty and guitar-based bliss. Fittingly, Doherty names a moose the “spirit animal” of “Hub of Dreams” based solely on vibrations; Neither Doherty nor his bandmates have seen one, but he feels the moose represents the song's majestic air.
Doherty also lists the cake scene Chickens race as a complement to “Hub of Dreams”, but not exactly because of its content. “We were playing YouTube videos on mute when we were listening to things we were recording, and sometimes we were really blown away by how well the music and video synced,” says Doherty, “‘Hub of Dreams’ had the craziest songs. synchronization of all of them, it is an almost perfect combination with the cake scene in CRuns!
