The Scottish duo (Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton) are releasing a new album. I'm fine with that, don't screw it up anymore, on May 10 via Rock Action. Now they've shared their third single, “Strawberry Moon,” via a horror-themed music video. Check it out below.
Moffat said of “Strawberry Moon” in a press release: “Lyrically, it's probably the most personal song on the album. About a time when I wasn't doing too well, both mentally and physically. I walked with a cane and was in pain most of the time, and drowned my sorrows too, holed up at home and watched the phases of the moon through a window. The moon always seems to rise in my lyrics and the song is a kind of cosmic hymn to its constant change. It's always a comfort, always optimistic and always makes me smile.”
David Arthur directed the video (Moffat previously worked with him on the film Where you should be) and is the first Arab Strap video in nearly 25 years to feature both members together. “Yes, it's been a while,” confirms Moffat. “So we thought we should go all out – costumes, make-up, special effects, acting, mobility scooters and everything.”
Arab Strap previously shared the album's first single, “Bliss,” which was one of the songs of the week. They then shared his second single, “Allatonceness”.
I'm fine with that, don't screw it up anymore it's supposed to be written with two yellow thumbs up emojis, one between 'it' and 'dot' and another at the end of the title, but for technical reasons we can't include the emojis on our site.
The album follows their 2021 comeback album, As the days grow darkerand their 2022 single, “Aphelion.”
As the days grow darker was Arab Strap's first album in nearly 16 years (stream here). Also, read our album review and My Firsts interview with Middleton. The album made the list of the top 100 albums of 2021.
The band's album before As the days grow darker it was 2005 The last romance. Arab Strap interviewed on Under the radarthe first print issue of 2001, for The Red Threadan album released the same year.
Arab Strap recently toured in honor of the 25th anniversary of their 1998 album Philophobia, but we can't wait to perform the more energetic songs from the new album. “THE [Philophobia] The tour was fun, but I'll be glad it's over so we can move on,” says Middleton.
Moffat adds: “H Philophobia The concerts were a way to say goodbye to our old ones. It's been a very mellow, quiet tour, so I expect this year we'll just play banger after banger—I think we've earned the right to make some noise now.”
