Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter Usher in the Return of Cinematic Music Videos

Music videos may not have prime time or major television premieres TRL releases they made in previous decades, but a pair of pop stars are making sure they're still major events.

Last week, Ariana Grande premiered a video for her latest Eternal sunshine single “The Boy Is Mine”, in which he stars You actor Penn Badgley as the object of Grande's obsession; The visual also features cameos from Brandy and Monica – a nod to their shared song title – as well as Grande transforming into Catwoman to fight the town's rat problem and get to Badgley's mayor.

Also last week, Sabrina Carpenter unveiled her new single and video, “Please Please Please,” featuring her co-star. Saltburn-actor friend Barry Keoghan. This also includes a cinematic storyline, with Carpenter and Keoghan's characters meeting as the pop star is bailed out of prison and the actor goes inside.
