Aventura Lights Up Madison Square Garden 14 Years Later, Brings Judy Santos For 'Obsession'

Fourteen years after their last appearance at Madison Square Garden, Romeo Santos and Aventura returned Thursday (May 23) to the New York City arena as part of their reunion tour Cerrado Tsiklosand they picked up where they left off — with fans enthralled by their music, screaming every word of every bachata song at the top of their lungs.

From the first chords of “Por un Segundo,” to “Dile al Amor,” “El Perdedor” and “Brindo con Agua,” Romeo — along with bandmates Henry, Lenny and Max Santos and about a dozen musicians on stage — thrilled a crowd that never stopped chanting every lyric and every comment from the singer, who was constantly interacting with them.

He even regaled them with a segment in which he performed excerpts of songs requested from the stands and brought a few female fans on stage to sing with him in a moment that felt intimate despite the nearly 20,000 people who filled the venue.

It was like no time had passed and to top it off, Aventura had the first surprise guest of the Garden tour. Right at the end, for the encore, Judy Santos unexpectedly appeared to perform with Romeo the collaboration they originally recorded in 2002: the Aventura anthem “Obsesión”.

Produced by CMN Events, the tour Cerrando Ciclos started on May 1 in Sacramento, California and has visited cities like Los Angeles, Houston and Chicago. The US trek will conclude on August 3rd in Hidalgo, TX, before the group heads to Spain for seven shows. They will then head to San Juan for six shows at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico and continue their Latin American journey.

The last time Romeo Santos (who started his solo career in 2012) and Aventura went on tour was right before the 2020 COVID pandemic Immortal tourwhich grossed $25.8 million and sold 189,000 tickets between 15 shows between February 5 and March 10, 2020, according to data reported in Billboard Boxscore.
