Billy Joel was once again joined by Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose onstage, this time for a cover of Wings’ “Live and Let Die” during Joel’s concert at the new Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on Saturday (October 12th).
Rose previously took the stage alongside the Piano Man on the final night of the latter’s residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City back in July. At that concert, Rose and Joel played three songs together, including “Live and Let Die,” AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell,” and Joel’s 1980 hit “You May Be Right.”
At the L.A. show, Axl only stuck around for the Wings cover, which GN’R famously covered on their 1991 album Use Your Illusion I.
The singer is a natural at performing the theatrical song and took the lead in the duet with Joel, including the somber intro verse and more demanding parts — including an epic scream during the tune’s famous orchestral flourish. As the band picked up the tempo to a galloping pace, Axl and Billy began to trade off with call-and-response before coming together in unison for the chorus.
Fans still have a chance to catch Billy Joel in 2024, as there are a handful of headlining US dates remaining this fall. After that, Joel will play a string of dates with Sting and Stevie Nicks in early 2025. Get tickets here.
