Stars: they are just like us. In that we all have old social media posts that we probably wish people would forget, especially when they resurface at the worst possible time. This was the dilemma faced by the laureates The bear star Ayo Edebiri, who found herself in hot water earlier this year when, on the eve of her first concert Saturday night livesome unflattering comments she had made four years earlier about the evening's musical guest, Jennifer Lopez, were rekindled to her dismay.
Golden Globe and Emmy Award Winner Below The actress addresses rumors of on-set tension during the February episode in a new Vanity fair cover on which he pours cold water on the suggestion that Lopez's years-long diss caused problems for the episode. “That would be like Mr. Bean and Mick Jagger arguing,” Entebiri told the magazine about the power imbalance between her and the global pop superstar/actor. “And apparently I'm Mr. Bean. It's J.Lo!”
To refresh, the former stand-up comedian said: “I was actually thinking about one of my favorite spoofs of all time because J.Lo is performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Her whole career is one long scam,” during a 2020 episode Fraud Goddess podcast. To prove he wasn't sick, he joked about the unearthed comment that night SNL in a sketch.
“It's wrong to leave mean comments or post comments just for influence — or to run your mouth on a podcast and not consider the impact because you're 24 and stupid,” Edebiri joked in the piece titled “Why' d You Say It.”
“She was very cool and cool about it,” Entebiri said VF.
In a Variety story a few days later SNLLopez laughed the whole thing off, saying, “I've heard similar things said about me throughout my career, so it really didn't affect me.”
Lopez told a reporter that the actor had apologized before the episode, adding that Entebiri was “sad and very sweet. She came into my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things. She felt really bad and she loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually heard me perform. He was like, “I'm so f-king sorry. That was so awful of me.”
Although he probably had a tough week, Entebiri said VF that it did not spoil her long-held dream of taking her place in the SNL stage. “SNL it's something that in my bones, I dreamed of as a comedian, as a little kid. That to me is the pinnacle of success,” he said.
