Word in the video game streets is that the upcoming Wu-Tang Clan video game is coming and will feature an animation style from Sony's Spider-Man animated films.
It has been detected Insider Gamingtwo separate reports from WindowsCentral Jez Corden and VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb (via Mess game), more details about “Project Shaolin” are emerging.
“Project Shaolin” first appeared on the radar thanks to a 2021 NVIDIA Leak which revealed a plethora of codenamed project titles in development.
Both Corden and Grubbs reports share details about the game and what players can expect from it.
Per Insider Gaming:
According to the two reports, the game is a third-person melee-oriented RPG, complete with four-player co-op. The game is also said to heavily involve the members of the Wu-Tang Clan themselves with the game's soundtrack and will feature loot, weapons and equipment from defeated enemies. According to reports, the game is under development at Brass Lion Entertainment, a new studio created in 2019 by Manveer Heir.
Insider Gaming can confirm these initial reports and understands that the game is currently in the Alpha stage.
Gameplay revolves around fast-paced third-person hand-to-hand combat, with a strong emphasis on blending both music and combat. Players can choose from four different weapons that all have different and unique play styles (single swords, dual swords, etc.). The game is understood to feature a massive catalog of Wu-Tang Clan music, most of which has been reimagined by producer and DJ Just Blaze for the game.
“Project Shaolin” will feature playable members of the Wu-Tang Clan
Insider Gaming it also mentions that all nine members of the Wu-Tang Clan will be playable characters, and that each character will serve as “a limited-time player that will give you ultimate moves, increased health, and more.”
The site also says it has seen gameplay footage of “Project Shaolin” on the condition that it not be shared and that the animation is similar to Sony's animation Spider-Verse movies.
As for the Wu-Tang Clan, this isn't the first time the iconic rap stable has been involved in the video game space. The group's love of martial arts and kung fu moves led to the development of the PlayStation game Wu-Tang Shaolin style in 1999.
The game did not feature the actual members of the Staten Island-based rap group, but instead lent their voices to characters based on their rap monikers.
Members of the Wu-Tang clan also appear in other games, such as Def Jam: Vendetta and Def Jam: Fight For New York.
We can't wait to finally see what Project Shaolin looks like when the first trailer drops. Maybe Xbox will reveal it in its next one Xbox Showcase next month.
