A man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries over the weekend after two suspects stabbed him with a knife and a machete at a Melbourne nightclub, according to local reports.
Authorities arrived at Revolver Upstairs on Sunday morning around 4 a.m. to respond to calls related to the attack, according to a statement issued by Victoria Police. The suspects fled the area before they arrived and an investigation is now underway.
“A 31-year-old man from Endeavour Hills suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment,” police said.
Revolver's owners have temporarily closed the venue and cancelled a scheduled Sunday night performance by Bag Raiders, the ARIA Award-nominated electronic music duo behind the global dance hit “Shooting Stars.”
This is the second knife attack at a Melbourne nightclub in the past month. Just three blocks from Revolver, a man was stabbed outside the Love Machine nightclub on August 16 after a fight broke out in the street. The 18-year-old victim suffered multiple stab wounds before doctors placed him in a medically induced coma. 9News reported at the time.
The victim of the attack in Revolver is in critical but stable condition, according to the Australian Associated Press.
“We are heartbroken by the violent incident that took place at Revolver Upstairs this morning,” the venue said in a statement posted on social media. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this terrible event.”
