Beachwood Sparks return with their first album in 12 years, along with some tour dates. Beyond the river of stars will be released on July 19 via Diligence. The band also shared lead single “Torn in Two,” which is accompanied by a charming hand-animated video courtesy of Mark Neely. The last time the Los Angeles alt-country band released new music was in 2012, with Tarnished Goldwhich was followed the next year by the archival release Desert Skies. On Beyond the river of starsBeachwood Sparks teamed up with producer Chris Robinson to return to the blend of intense psychedelia and dreamy melodies they're known for.
In 2017, Beachwood Sparks guitarist and songwriter Josh Schwartz passed away after being diagnosed with ALS. He was 45 years old. Schwartz was a member of the original lineup of Beachwood Sparks, having joined in 1997 and contributed to Desert Skies before the band broke up in 1999. He continued to collaborate with many artists over the years and released his own solo album as Painted Hills.
