Belfast post-punk/electronic group Chalk recently shared their searing new work 'Bliss', marking the final reveal of their 'Conditions II' EP, now out first via Nice Swan Records (Sports Team , Pip Blom, English Teacher).
This new album, the first collaborative song of the band's career, features the vocals of singer Constance Keane, also known as Fears (also voice of Mhaol). Stunning Post-Punk traditions and film production combine with ethereal harmonies and widescreen electronics on the band's penultimate release of their sophomore project.
Fresh from winning 'Best Live Act' at the NI Music Prize 2023, Chalk's relentless rise continues to gather an exciting pace, with EP singles 'The Gate' and 'Claw' landing on the BBC 6 Music playlist ( alongside PJ Harvey, IDLES, Sampha, Yard Act) and championed by Jack Saunders to kick off 2024.
Inspired by the ferocity and live performances of Dublin's guitar scene, along with the sweaty, harsh dance landscape of his native Belfast, Chalk have already sold out multiple dates across the UK and Europe in the last twelve months. , including highly praised spots at the likes of Reading and Leeds, Trans Musicals, Reeperbahn Festival and Eurosonic. With 2024 looking even busier on the live front, the trio are set to head to the US for their debut appearance at SXSW next month, ahead of their biggest UK headlining tour to date and a series of Irish dates supporting their fellow Sprints.
Detailing the final reveal of their EP, bandleader Ross Cullen stated: “The theme for Bliss originally came from a short film I wrote while we were in college. It's about two people who once shared a love in the past and see each other again. They shared no words with each other, only thoughts and a recognition of what could have been.”
Produced by Chris Ryan (NewDad, Enola Gay, Just Mustard) and Ross Cullen, Chalk's 'Bliss' is out now via Nice Swan Records and available on all digital platforms.
