Benson Boone is living the dream. The pop-rock artist has been a Billboard Hot 100 mainstay with “Beautiful Things” since his debut and recently opened for Taylor Swift on one of her London stops on The Eras tour. But who is Benson Boone? How did it get its start? And how did it become a Hot 100 hit? This is Billboard Explains: Benson Boone's Beautiful Chart Success. Originally from Monroe, Washington, Benson didn't discover his voice and love of music until high school. His best friend asked him to play the piano at their school's battle of the bands competition after the singer quit. Benson filled in, and that decision undoubtedly changed the course of his life. He then went on to audition for American Idol, where he received a standing ovation from the judges and Katy Perry gave him the ultimate compliment. Benson eventually decided to leave the competition to pursue music on his own. He went on to be signed to Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds' Night Street Records. Benson then debuted on the Billboard chart at No. 33 on Emerging Artists in October 2021. He scored his first Billboard Hot 100 hit with “Ghost Town,” peaking at No. 100. He followed with “In the Stars”, his second Hot 100 hit. The song peaked at No. 82 and entered the top 50 of the Global 200.
