The same goes for how the group decided to work with legendary producer Rick Rubin after their reunion, as well as all the shenanigans that ensued while the album was being recorded in Rubin's Hawaiian studio. She remembers that conversations with him were always fun and light-hearted and that it was surprisingly pleasant to disagree with him. “I said, 'Rick, I'm going to name this record Gender Fluids,' and he said, 'I'm offended,'” she says. “It's very important to me to be able to have fun, talk and just relax. “It’s not just about being at work.”
The singer also talks about how comforting it is to see the queer and trans movements that Gossip championed early in her career continue to grow. Ditto explains her absolute joy that progress is finally being made in the overall conversation, while she recognizes the challenges that still lie ahead.
